RedHawks Hit Road for Duke Invitational This Weekend

THIS WEEKEND: Miami continues its road stretch at the Duke Invitational this weekend. The RedHawks will take on the College of Charleston at 12 p.m. and then play tourney host Duke at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 3, before facing Howard at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON & SERIES WITH THE COUGARS: The College of Charleston enters this weekend with a 3-1 mark after hosting an invitational last weekend. The Cougars' lone loss was in three sets to fellow MAC program Eastern Michigan. This is Miami's first meeting with the Cougars.Â
ABOUT DUKE & THE SERIES WITH THE BLUE DEVILS: Duke enters the weekend with a 3-0 record and is coming off a three-set win against Elon on Tuesday after a pair of five-set wins in the Coastal Carolina Invitational last weekend. Miami owns a 2-1 record against the Blue Devils, but it has been more than 30 years since the teams last met on Nov. 9, 1990 in Durham, N.C. with Miami notching a 3-1 win. Duke's win in the series came on Oct. 28, 1989 at the Northwestern Academic Classic, 3-0.
ABOUT HOWARD & THE SERIES WITH THE BISON: Howard enters the weekend with a 2-1 mark, falling in three sets in its last match at George Mason. Although this is the first meeting between Miami and Howard, there is a connection between the programs as head coach Shaun Kupferberg is a 2000 Miami University graduate.Â
TELEVISION: All three matches at the Duke Invitational will be aired on ACCNX.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks then return home to host the Miami/Best Western Invitational Sept. 10-11 in the first home matches of the season for MU. The RedHawks entertain Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10 in their home opener. Miami will face local foe Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 and will cap the tournament with a match against Evansville Saturday evening at 7 p.m. All Miami matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ or ESPN3.
RIEMERSMA NAMED TO MARSHALL ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM: Senior Sophie Riemersma was named to the Marshall Invitational All-Tournament Team following the RedHawks' opening weekend matches. Reimersma led Miami with 29 kills for the weekend and averaged 2.23 kps and 1.85 dps. She also notched six block assists and led the team with 33.0 points for the tournament.

ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 762-568 career record entering her 42nd season as a head coach. Condit's 762 total victories are tied for eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches, and tied for 24th all-time. Owning more victories than any coach in the history of the Miami Athletic Department, Condit holds a 663-491 record and is in her 38th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win over 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 366-216.

- Sophomore Taylor Nomanson amassed a career-high 25 digs at Marshall on Aug. 28, the first RedHawk this season to eclipse the 20-dig mark.
- Freshman Gracie Norris played in the first matches of her Miami career and notched 22, 19 and 24 assists in respective matches. She averaged 5.00 aps while splitting time at setter with senior Jennifer Schulze. Â
- Brooke Cirigliano also played in all three matches, her first as a RedHawk. She led the team with nine blocks (0.69 bps) and added 18 kills over the weekend.Â
- Freshman  Margo Lawson also saw her first action as a RedHawk, earning time against Alabama.Â
- Senior Gaby Harper has played in 84 career matches and is poised to eclipse the 100-match mark in the last third of the season.
- Miami boasts seven newcomers on its 2021 roster, which comprises 41% of the Miami roster.
