OXFORD, Ohio—The Miami University volleyball team (2-8) was edged in four sets by the University of Cincinnati (5-3) on Saturday evening in Millett Hall, 19-25, 17-25, 25-17, 23-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

A service ace from freshman Gracie Norris knotted the first set at 12-12 and a kill from freshman Brooke Cirigliano led to a 13-13 tie, but Cincinnati pushed ahead off a 5-1 run and went on to collect a 25-19.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 9-3 advantage in the second set. Miami chiseled away to close within 14-11 before UC went on a 6-0 run to push ahead to a 20-11 lead. The Bearcats went on to take the second set, 25-17.
A 6-0 flurry that included a pair of service aces from junior Jacquelyn Krumnauer handed Miami a 10-5 lead in the third set. The RedHawks pushed their lead to nine and went on to collect the 25-17 win in the third stanza. Miami hit a sizzling .434 in the third set.
The fourth set was a back and forth battle. The RedHawks pushed ahead to a 19-16 lead off a kill by junior Lindsay Taylor. UC retaliated with a 3-0 spurt to knot the set at 19. The teams went back and forth, but Cincinnati was able to pull out the 25-23 win in the fourth set to take the match.

NOTES:

Junior Allyson Severance led Miami with 14 kills.
Krumnauer added 14 digs and three service aces.
Senior Jennifer Schulze tallied 23 assists.

Miami opens Mid-American Conference play when the RedHawks head to Buffalo for a pair of weekend matches. The RedHawks will play the Bulls at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24 and at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
