Savage Selected in Fourth Round of 2021 NHL Draft by the Detroit Red Wings

Freshman Red Savage, a member of the Miami University hockey program, was selected by the Detroit Red Wings as the 114th pick in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Draft. Savage is the first RedHawk drafted since Jonathan Gruden was selected by the Ottawa Senators back in 2018.

Savage played this past season with a United States National Development Program, registering six goals and 10 assists in 18 USHL contests. He was also a member of the U-17 and U-18 National Teams, registering a combined 26 points in 31 games.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native also represented the United States at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge back in 2019.

Red's father, Brian Savage, also a member of the Miami hockey program, was the 171st selection of the Montreal Canadians back in 1991. He played in 674 career games, recording 359 points.
