COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced today that Miami senior forward Blake Mesenburg is this year's recipient of the National's Sportsmanship Award.
Mesenburg, a native of Orono, Minn., has been an integral part of Miami's leadership group for the past two seasons and is known for his impact both inside the rink and away from it. He has been at the forefront of the Miami Hockey program from a community service standpoint, and was named a finalist for Team IMPACT's 2026 national Teammate of the Year award. Mesenburg has served on RedHawk Council and as a youth hockey volunteer coach, while volunteering for causes such as Move-In Miami, Oxford Community Clean Up, Taking MACtion Foods and Funds Drive, Oxford Porsche Car Show, Coach's Cafe for the Miami Hockey Blue Line Club, Butler County Therapeutic/Best Buddies Skate, Ace Hardware fundraiser, the Talawanda parade and more.
Mesenburg, a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, skated in 119 games for the RedHawks over the past four seasons and did not commit a major penalty in his collegiate career. He has consistently conducted himself with the utmost class and respect in a Miami sweater while playing a physical, clean brand of hockey, and his leadership was a significant part of the Red and White's turnaround in 2025-26 (15 more wins than a year before). Mesenburg is the first-ever RedHawk to win the NCHC's Sportsmanship Award.
"We are very proud of Blake and feel he is deserving of this award," said Miami head coach Anthony Noreen. "Blake is a tremendous student-athlete who embodies everything we want Miami Hockey to be. His character, selflessness and work ethic have been unwavering on and off the ice. Congratulations to Blake and his family; the entire Miami Hockey family is proud of you."
