LEXINGTON, Ky.—Junior Allie Cummins belted a solo home run in the first inning and added a double in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as the Miami University softball team dropped a 7-1 decision to Northwestern University (30-16) on Saturday afternoon in its second game in the NCAA Tournament Lexington Regional.

The RedHawks finish the season with a 46-10 mark, setting Miami records for most wins and fewest losses in a season amidst a myriad of other program and Mid-American Conference single-season records.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Miami got on the board in the first inning with Cummins' home run over the right field fence with two outs to give the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. The homer, Cummins' 17th of the season, tied her for the RedHawks' single-season record with teammate Karli Spaid.
The Wildcats scored three in the top of the second inning to push ahead, 3-1. Northwestern added to its lead with a four-run homer in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 advantage.
Cummins was 2-for-3 on the day at the plate with a run and RBI. Freshman Karlee Juarez, junior Adriana Barlow and senior Lily Wilmot each recorded hits for Miami.
Senior Courtney Vierstra pitched 4.2 innings, picking up six strikeouts, while junior Brianna Pratt came in to throw 2.1 innings in relief and collect three strikeouts.
