MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — The Miami University baseball team took a pair of early leads in both games of a doubleheader on the road but eventually fell 2-1 and 6-3 to the Central Michigan Chippewas. The RedHawks fall to 19-18 (12-11 Mid-American Conference), while Central Michigan improves to 27-11 (19-4 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the top of the third of game one, the RedHawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead. Redshirt freshman Dalton Back singled to right field, then graduate student Will Vogelgesang reached on an error. Shortly after, junior Cole Andrews singled to the left, driving home Back. The Chippewas scored once in the bottom of the third and once in the fourth, taking a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish.
- In game two, the RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Redshirt freshman Benji Brokemond led the game off with a single. He stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw. Vogelgesang then drove him in on a groundout.
- In the top of the fourth inning, trailing 2-1, the RedHawks struck with a pair of solo home runs by Vogelgesang and Brian Zapp, giving the 'Hawks a 3-2 lead. CMU responded with a three-run sixth inning to take the lead and the victory.
