YPSILANTI, Mich. — Behind Tyler Wardwell's potent bat and a pair of good starts by Sam Bachman and Jonathan Brand, the Miami University baseball team took both games against the Eastern Michigan Eagles on the road. The RedHawks took a first-inning lead in both games and never relinquished it to secure the doubleheader sweep. Miami notched a 4-1 win in the opener and posted a 5-0 shutout in the nightcap.
The RedHawks continue the season with a 16-9 overall record (9-2 Mid-American Conference), while Eastern Michigan falls to 8-12 (4-7 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- Redshirt freshman Benji Brokemond led the game off with a single. Graduate student Will Vogelgesang then singled, giving the RedHawks runners on first and second. Following a fly-out, Brokemond scored on a wild pitch while Vogelgesang advanced to second. Junior Cole Andrews then drove in Vogelgesang, giving the RedHawks a two-run lead.
- In the top of the fourth, senior Nate Stolze doubled to left field. Junior Tyler Wardwell then followed up with a single, bringing home Stolze to extend the Miami lead.
- In the top of the fifth, Vogelgesang reached on a hit by pitch. Freshman Dalton Back then singled to the left, putting runners on first and second. Redshirt freshman Nate Stone then singled, scoring Vogelgesang, giving the RedHawks a four-run lead and the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- Brokemond started game two with a double down the right-field line. Back then reached on a hit by pitch. Back then stole second, then came around to score on an error following a walk of Stone. Andrews and Stolze were each hit by pitches, loading the bases to provide Miami with an opportunity. Wardwell then singled and advanced to second on the throw while clearing the bases and gave the RedHawks a 4-0 lead.
- To lead off the bottom of the second, senior Michael Morissette hit a solo home-run to right field, putting the RedHawks up five.
GAME NOTES:
- Wardwell went 3-for-5 with four RBI while also reaching base three other times. He also stole three bases in game two.
- Vogelgesang reached base four times, including two singles, while also scoring twice.
- Stone reached base three times, with an RBI and a run scored.
- Brokemond went 3-for-8 with a double, walk and a run scored.
- Bachman threw four scoreless innings in game one, striking out six batters and picking up the win.
- Brand threw five scoreless innings in game two, striking out five batters while allowing just one hit.
- Senior Logan Schmitt threw three innings out of the bullpen, allowing just two hits and a run.

The RedHawks will square off with the Eagles in a single game Sunday, April 4. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium.
