RedHawks Complete Series Sweep of Toledo with 12-3 Win Sunday

TOLEDO, Ohio—Behind a 14-hit effort in a five-inning win, the Miami University softball team topped the University of Toledo on Sunday afternoon, 12-3, to sweep the four-game series against the Rockets. Miami moves to 31-7 overall and 21-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while Toledo drops to 19-16 overall and 9-10 in MAC action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Miami opened up a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off an RBI double by senior Mackenzie Moore to plate freshman Karlee Juarez. Toledo responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to even up the scoring.
The RedHawks went ahead for good, scoring three in the top of the second to post a 4-1 lead. Freshman Holly Blaska and junior Adriana Barlow each had RBI singles in the inning.
In the third inning, Juarez notched an RBI single before Moore belted a two-run double to extend the Miami lead to 7-1.
Miami added five more runs in the top of the fifth off a Barlow RBI single, a two-run double by junior Riley Coyne and a two-run single from Blaska to further its lead to 12-1. The Rockets scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make the final margin 12-3 in favor of the RedHawks.

NOTES:

Coyne led five RedHawks who had multi-hit games and was 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and two RBI. Blaska followed, going 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.
Junior Brianna Pratt collected the win in the circle, throwing 4.0 innings. She gave up just four hits and struck out seven. Freshman Taylor Turner pitched 1.0 relief innings and gave up one hit and struck out one.
