Track Competes in Miami Invite and at Drake Relays

OXFORD, Ohio and DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Miami University track and field team posted strong performances across multiple events as the RedHawks competed at the Drake Relays in Iowa and the RedHawk Invite hosted on home turf in Oxford.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Drake Relays:
- Olivia Bechtel posted a new career-best in the 400 meters with a time of 52.72. With the time, the senior breaks her own Miami record in the event, improving on the previous record by 0.13 seconds.
- Ava Nuttall ran the 10,000 for the first time in her college outdoor track and field career, finishing in 34:55.61, which places her at fourth all-time in the Miami record book.
- On the men's side, Sean Torpy placed fifth in the 1500 event (3:42.27), while his brother Christopher Torpy wasn't far behind with a time of 3:43.29 to place 10th.
- Andrew Schroff, Conall McGinness, Charlie Harders, and Anthony Camerieri were the top finishers in the 4x1600 relay, finishing in 16:40.84.
RedHawk Invite:
- Faith Baxter had the fastest 400 time (56.10 seconds) in a competitive field. Katie Vitou was also victorious on the women's side, winning the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:43.07, a new personal best that places her at sixth in Miami's record book.
- Ally Suyak finished second in the 5000 event, finishing in 17:10.50. McKenna Fry continued Miami's strong showing in the distance events, placing third in the 800 event with a time of 2:14.97.
- In the hurdle events, Kayla Walters placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 15.04, while Marta Cepeda Pérez had the same result in the 400-meter hurdles, with 1:02.87.
- CJ Patton picked up an individual victory on the men's side, winning the 400-meter hurdles (54.92).
- Jake Bertelsen had a stellar performance in the 1500 meter event, finishing in 3:57.08
- In the field, Meg Wilson took the runner-up title in the long jump, clearing a distance of 5.57 meters, and Sean Mesue won the discus throw with a 48.40-meter toss.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The RedHawks will compete in the Harris Family Invite at Notre Dame next weekend. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, May 1 in South Bend, Ind.Â
