OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team started their series with Kent State by splitting a doubleheader matchup with the Golden Flashes. In game one, the RedHawks fell in extra innings 3-2, while Miami won the second game of the day, 1-0.
With the split, the RedHawks move to 19-13 (12-6 Mid-American Conference), while the Golden Flashes move to 15-18 (8-10 MAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In game one, while trailing 2-0, the RedHawks rallied in the bottom of the sixth to tie up the game at 2-2. Sophomore Brian Zapp led off with a single, then senior Nate Stolze and junior Nick Neibauer walked to load the bases. Junior Mac Hippenhammer, who came in to run for Stolze, and Zapp ended up scoring on a graduate student Will Vogelgesang single, tying it up. Kent State, however, clinched the first game with a run in the top of the eighth inning.
- In game two, the RedHawks broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Parker Massman led off with a double. He then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt before being driven in by sophomore Billy Kopicki's single to score the game winner.
GAME NOTES:
- Vogelgesang went 2-for-4 in game one with two RBI. In game two, he was 3-for-3.
- Redshirt freshman Nate Stone went 2-for-4 with a double in game one.
- Grant Hartwig threw six innings, striking out seven batters while allowing just two earned runs in game one.
- Jonathan Brand threw five scoreless innings in game two, striking out six batters.

The RedHawks will face off against the Kent State Golden Flashes Saturday, April 24. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. at McKie Field.
