OXFORD, Ohio — In its fifth conference contest of the season, the Miami University field hockey shutout the Golden Flashes of Kent State University in a 3-0 victory on Friday afternoon at the Miami Field Hockey Complex in Oxford.
The RedHawks (8-1, 5-0 MAC) continue their season with a perfect conference record, while Kent State falls to 5-2 and 3-2 in the MAC. Freshman Paula Peña opened the scoring for Miami with the first goal, while freshman Claudia Negrete Garcia tallied the sixth goal of her career for Miami in the second quarter. Allie Grace Joyner sealed it for the RedHawks in the third quarter. Miami also kept the visiting team at bay, allowing Isabelle Perese to record her fourth shutout of the season. Azure Fernsler recorded 10 saves for Kent State in the loss.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- The RedHawks outshot the Golden Flashes by a mark of 13-2 on the day. Miami's offense also forced eight penalty corners, and KSU had just one.
- Over the past four games, Negrete Garcia has registered three goals and two assists.
- Peña's goal was the first of her career, which was also the eventual game-winner.

- 17:311 | Garcia passed the ball over to Peña, who scored the game-opener to give the RedHawks the 1-0 lead.
- 20:36 | Garcia bounced the ball in past the Kent State goalkeeper and sniped a shot into the open net to give Miami the 2-0 lead in the second quarter.
- 38:57 | Off a penalty corner, Luli Rosso gave the ball to Leonor Berlie, and Berlie passed it to Joyner, who drilled it into the back of the cage to make it 3-0.
