RedHawks Tame Bulls; Win Streak Reaches 19 Straight

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team took two on Saturday versus the University at Buffalo Bulls by scores of 10-1 and 8-0. The two wins move Miami's win streak to 19 straight and improves Miami's record to 25-6 overall and 15-0 in Mid-American Conference play. The Bulls are now 9-23, 7-10 MAC.

How it Happened (Game One):
  • Kate Kobayashi put Miami on the board early with a double down the left field line to plate two in the bottom of the first. Mackenzie Moore then singled to left to bring home Kobayashi to give Miami a 3-0 lead after one inning of play.
  • A single from Karlee Juarez, combined with a Buffalo throwing error, brought home Morgan Lott to spot the Red and White a 4-0 advantage after two.
  • Buffalo homered in the third to close the gap at 4-1. The run snapped Courtney Vierstra's scoreless streak at 28.0 straight innings. The last time she allowed an earned run was back on March 27 in a win over Central Michigan.
  • Miami took a 6-1 lead off the bat of Karli Spaid. The freshman's two-run homer in the fourth inning extended her hit streak to 17-straight games. Miami added an additional four runs in the inning, with two RBI from Lily Wilmot and a base hit from Lott to put Miami up 10-1.
  • Vierstra finished the game with eight strikeouts in the five-inning affair.

How it Happened (Game Two):
  • Moore and Riley Coyne each picked up an RBI in the second to give Miami an early 2-0 lead.
  • Spaid picked up her second home run of the day, a solo shot in the third. Just a few batters later Kobayashi doubled to left field to bring around Allie Cummins for a 4-0 Miami advantage.
  • Holly Blaska made it 5-0 Miami with a groundout RBI in the fourth.
  • Spaid's solo shot, her third home run of the day, made it 6-0 in the fifth, and Kobayashi ended the contest with a two-run blast over the left field fence for a final 8-0 score.
