AKRON, Ohio – The Miami University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon and set a new school record in the process. By beating Akron 12-4 and 9-3, the RedHawks have now won 11 straight conference games, the longest MAC win streak in school history. Miami moves to 21-6 overall and 11-0 in conference play while the Zips fall to 3-22 overall, 2-9 MAC.

How it Happened (Game One):

Mackenzie Moore homered to right field to spot the RedHawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The home run was one of five for Miami in the contest, matching a Mid-American Conference record for home runs in a game.
Riley Coyne made it 2-0 in the third with a solo blast to straight-away center and Allie Cummins added a three-run homer just a few batters later as Miami took a commanding 5-0 lead. A Moore groundout brought home Adriana Barlow to cap the five-run third inning.
Miami added five more runs in the fourth. Holly Blaska had a solo shot, Karli Spaid recorded a two-run homer and a double off the bat or Morgan Lott plated two more RedHawks as Miami led 12-0 after four innings of play.
Courtney Vierstra did the rest, throwing 4.1 innings, allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out eight. With her first strikeout of the game, the senior moved into second place in career strikeouts and now has 680 in her career.

How it Happened (Game Two):

Coyne doubled to left field to plate Lily Wilmot and Moore as the RedHawks took an early 2-0 advantage in the second inning.
Barlow singled up the middle in the third to make it 3-0 Miami.
Akron scored twice with a pair of unearned runs to cut Miami's lead to 3-2 after four innings of play.
Miami answered with five runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-2 lead. Cummins got things started with a double to plate Spaid. A single by Barlow brought Cummins around to score. Moore picked up an RBI with a ground out and Blaska capped the fifth-inning rally with a single to score a pair.
Both teams added a run in the sixth.
Brianna Pratt picked up the win, throwing 6.0 innings, while allowing one run and striking out seven.
