Baseball Falls in Extra Innings to Western Michigan, 3-2

OXFORD, Ohio —  Through many weather delays and extra innings, the Miami University baseball team lost 3-2 in a late-night extravaganza against the Western Michigan Broncos. With the loss, the RedHawks fall 17-12 (10-5 Mid-American Conference) while the Broncos improved to 10-11 (10-5 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the bottom of the sixth inning, senior Michael Morissette singled up the middle. Following a wild pitch and a walk, graduate student Will Vogelgesang singled, driving in Morissette to get Miami on the board. Redshirt freshman Nate Stone hit a sacrifice fly, scoring junior Mac Hippenhammer, giving the RedHawks a 2-1 lead.
  • However, in the top of the tenth inning, the Broncos scored a run, securing a 3-2 win.

GAME NOTES:

  • Sam Bachman threw six innings, allowing just one run while striking out eleven batters.

WHAT'S NEXT:

The RedHawks will play game four of their series with the Western Michigan Broncos on Sunday, April 11. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at McKie Field in Oxford.
