RedHawks Shutout Saint Louis, 2-0

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — In the third non-conference contest of the season, the Miami University field hockey shutout the Saint Louis Billikens in a 2-0 victory on Friday afternoon at the Sportport International in St. Louis.

The RedHawks (3-0) continue their season with a perfect record, while St. Louis falls to 3-2, with both of their losses coming by the hands of the 'Hawks. Like yesterday's game, senior Leonor Berlie opened the scoring for Miami with the first goal, while freshman Claudia Negrete Garcia tallied the first goal of her career for Miami in the final quarter to seal the victory. Miami also kept the home team without a shot, allowing Isabelle Perese to record her first shutout of the season. Kendyl Underwood recorded four saves for Saint Louis in the loss.

MIAMI GAME NOTES:

  • The RedHawks outshot the Billikens by a mark of 19-0 on the day, allowing no shots on goal. Miami's offense also forced 13 penalty corners, and SLU had none.
  • The game was tied at the half, but the offense lit up the scoreboard in the second, scoring both goals.
  • Over the past three games, Berlie has registered five points on two goals and one assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • 42:30 | Berlie bounced the ball in, past the Saint Louis goalkeeper and sniped a shot into the open net to give Miami the 1-0 lead in the third quarter.
  • 54:49 | Off a penalty corner, Neely Lochmoeller gave the ball to Luli Rosso, and Rosso passed it to Garcia, who drilled it into the back of the cage for the first goal of her career.

UP NEXT:

  • The RedHawks return home for a two-game series next weekend, hosting Ohio University at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 12, before hosting them again on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Field Hockey Complex.
