ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A minute and a half into overtime, sophomore Luli Rosso capitalized off a rebound to lift the Miami University field hockey team past St. Louis University on Thursday afternoon in Saint Louis.
The contest went scoreless through the first half, and it wasn't until the 46th minute that Saint Louis (3-1) found the back of the net for the first goal of the game. The RedHawks (2-0) answered 13 minutes later as regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.
Shortly into overtime, Rosso got ahold of the ball, and deposited it into the back of the net for Miami's second victory in the 2021 campaign. In net, sophomore goaltender Isabelle Perese made one save for her second victory of her spring season. For Saint Louis, Kendyl Underwood recorded ten saves in 62 minutes.
MIAMI GAME NOTES:
- The RedHawks out shot the Billikens 25-4 on the day, and also held an advantage of 12-2 on shots on goal. Miami also led in penalty corners by a 16-1 mark.
- For Miami, Allie Grace Joyner led the RedHawks with five shots on goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 46:20 (SLU 1-0) | Saint Louis' Emily Wastell got the first goal in from a put it in from a Grace Golembiewski pass to open up the game scoring in the second half.
- 59:59 (Miami 1-1) | Miami answered in the last second of regulation when Leonor Berlie scored off a penalty shot to tie it to go into overtime. Berlie's goal is her first of the 2021 season.
- 61:23 (Miami 2-1) | Rosso took her own shot that was blocked and fired a second shot past the SLU to give the 'Hawks the victory. Rosso's game-winning goal in the first goal of her career.
