RedHawks Capture Two Five-Inning Wins Against CMU Saturday

GAME ONE: Miami 11, CMU 3
- CMU took a 2-0 lead, scoring one run in the first and second innings. Miami erupted for five runs off four hits in the bottom of the second inning that included a three-run triple by freshman Karli Spaid.
- The RedHawks added three runs in the bottom of the third off an RBI single by senior Mackenzie Moore and an RBI double from freshman Holly Blaska.
- CMU notched a run in the top of the fourth, but Miami responded with two more runs in the bottom of the inning as junior Allie Cummins led off the inning with a home run over the right field fence before Moore blasted an RBI triple to push the Miami lead to 10-3.
- Miami tacked on one more run after Blaska tripled to lead off the inning and freshman Karlee Juarez hit a sacrifice fly to give Miami the eight-run margin, 11-3.
- Miami took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off an RBI double by Cummings to score Spaid.
- Another five-run second inning catapulted Miami to a 6-1 lead. Juarez hit a two-run double before Spaid blasted a two-run homer to center field and Cummings followed with a solo shot over the left field fence.
- Miami scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as junior Adriana Barlow belted a two-run walk-off homer over the left field fence to give Miami the 8-0 five-inning win.
- Senior Courtney Vierstra pitched 5.0 innings in the first game to move to 9-2 on the season. She gave up three runs off four hits, while striking out six and walking none.
- Junior Brianna Pratt picked up the Game Two shutout, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up just three hits, no walks and striking out six.
- Cummins was 3-for-3 in the first game with two runs and 2 RBI, while Moore was 3-for-3 in the second game with two runs and 2 RBI.
- The 8-0 win in the second game, marked Miami's seventh shutout of the season.
- Miami has now won in fewer than seven innings in seven of their last eight games.
Miami and Central Michigan round out a four-game weekend series in Oxford at noon on Sunday, March 28.
