
RedHawks Complete Day Two of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Miami University outdoor track and field squad put up a strong showing at North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays on Friday, showcasing great results to continue the 2021 outdoor season on a strong note.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Olivia Bechtel, running in the 400m, placed first in the event with a time of 53.31. In a field of 34 runners, this was enough to give Bechtel the top mark in the Mid-American Conference by almost three seconds. Faith Baxter also had a strong showing in the same event, finishing in 10th with a time of 55.69, a new personal best for the sophomore.
- Elise Walker placed 14th in the high jump, clearing a distance of 1.60 meters to finish strong in a deep field.
- Ryan Smith, the current MAC Men's Field Performer of the Week, performed well in the discus throw, finishing in 12th with a 49.14 meter toss. Sean Mesue finished close to Smith, with a 17th-place finish and a 46.91 meter throw, a new career best.
- To close the day for the RedHawks, Emily Akin was the top Miami finisher in the 5000-meter event, placing 42nd in a field of 106 runners from across the NCAA. Akin's time of 17:06.09 is now tops the Mid-American Conference by more than 15 seconds.
