OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University baseball team scored four unanswered runs over the final two innings against Northern Illinois University, winning on a walk-off wild pitch in the ninth inning. Redshirt senior Grant Hartwig pitched 7.2 dominant innings, striking out 11 batters to spur the RedHawks in a 4-3 come-from-behind win at McKie Field. With the victory, the RedHawks improve to 11-8 overall and 4-1 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Huskies fall to 4-12 overall and 3-2 in MAC action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth and extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the eighth inning.
- In the bottom of the eighth, redshirt freshman Nate Stone singled up the middle, driving in freshman Jacob Hensor and redshirt freshman Benji Brokemond to close within one of the Huskies.
- In the bottom of the ninth, junior Cole Andrews doubled to left field. Junior Mac Hippenhammer came on to pinch-run for Andrews and ended up with the game-tying run on redshirt sophomore Stephen Krause's walk. The following at-bat, junior Tyler Wardwell came in on a wild pitch, giving the RedHawks a 4-3 win.
GAME NOTES:
- Hartwig pitched 7.2 innings, striking out 11 NIU batters.
- Stone went 1-for-3 with a two-run single on the day.
- Wardwell went 1-for-3 with a double while also scoring the game-winning run.
- Senior Logan Schmitt pitched 1.1 scoreless frames picking up the win.

The RedHawks will play a doubleheader against Northern Illinois on Saturday, March 26. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m. at McKie Field in Oxford. Each game is scheduled for seven innings.
