OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University softball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, downing Western Michigan by scores of 10-1 and 5-1. Miami is now 10-6 overall and 3-0 in Mid-American Conference play, while WMU is 4-12, 0-3 MAC.
How it Happened (Game One):
- Western Michigan opened the game with a home run to claim an early 1-0 advantage.
- Miami responded with a run in the bottom of the first and senior Lily Wilmot had a bases-clearing double down the left-field line to spot the RedHawks a 4-1 lead after two innings of play.
- The RedHawks added five more in the third, highlight by a two-run blast off the bat of Wilmot.
- Senior Jada Dotson made it 10-1 for the Red and White with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.
- Senior Courtney Vierstra recorded eight strikeouts in four innings pitched, allowing just one run. Taylor Turner closed the contest with a perfect fifth inning, posting two strikeouts.
How it Happened (Game Two):
- Dotson singled up the middle to plate two in the first inning to spot Miami a 2-0 lead.
- Kate Kobayashi added an RBI in the second and Cummins flew out to center to bring home Karlee Juarez in the second as Miami extended its lead to 4-0.
- After the Broncos got on the board in the top of the fourth, Karli Spaid answered with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the inning.
- Brianna Pratt threw a complete game, allowing two hits while striking out nine.
