Field Hockey Cruises Past Longwood to Remain Undefeated

FARMVILLE, Va. — Scoring two unanswered goals to close the game, the Miami University field hockey team cruised past Longwood, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in Farmville, Va. The RedHawks (7-0) need just one win to match their best start in program history.

Miami's three goals came from three different Miami players, as Neely Lochmoeller saw her second goal on the season, scoring the first goal of the game. Claudia Negrete Garcia and Leonor Berlie also scored for Miami, continuing their offensive success on the season. Karly Harwood tallied the lone goal for the Lancers (2-3) in the 22nd minute. In the cage, Isabelle Perese earned he seventh consecutive victory for the RedHawks, making two saves. Madison Nuckols had seven saves for the Lancers in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • 12:48 (Miami 1-0) | Berlie made the initial shot on goal from the corner, but Lochmoeller deflected it in to open up the game's scoring.
  • 21:46 (Longwood 1-1) | Harwood responded back for the Lancers to get on the board. Luna Lopez gave it to Harwood to score and tie it up.
  • 43:18 (Miami 2-1) | Negrete Garcia got the ball from Luli Rosso, who got it from Lochmoeller's corner shot.
  • 43:39 (Miami 3-1) | Berlie secured the win by scoring on a penalty stroke.

GAME NOTES:

  • The RedHawks outshot Longwood by an impressive mark of 14-4, allowing no shots in the third quarter.
  • On penalty corners, Miami was awarded 10, while Longwood earned one in the second quarter.
  • Miami has now out-scored the opposition by a mark of 15-4 on the season, while outshooting them by a margin of 133-31.

The RedHawks returns home for a non-conference game with the University of Louisville. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Monday, March 22 at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.
