Miami Captures Thrilling 84-79 Overtime Win at Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—After a frantic end to regulation, the Miami University men's basketball team powered through overtime to seize an 84-79 win at Bowling Green on Tuesday evening. Senior forward Dalonte Brown poured in a career-high 29 points to lead all players and hauled in 14 rebounds to lift the RedHawks (12-10; 9-8 Mid-American Conference) to their fourth-straight road win. It snapped a four-game win streak for the Falcons (14-10; 10-8 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Powered by four triples, two coming from sophomore guard Dae Dae Grant, Miami used a 16-3 flurry to take a 16-7 lead at the 16:38 mark.
  • The Falcons went on a 12-0 run to notch a 23-20 advantage by the 10:25 mark. Miami closed within 33-30 with 6:02 to go in the opening half off a pair of redshirt sophomore guard Myja White free throws, but the Falcons finished the half outscoring Miami 10-4 to take a 43-34 lead into the break.
  • Miami charged out of the gates in the second half, using a 19-2 surge to push ahead 53-45 by the 14:08 mark. Senior forward Dalonte Brown contributed eight points during the run.
  • The Falcons were held without a field goal in the second half until the 13:44 mark, but were able to close within one with 8:25 to go, 57-56, after back-to-back three-pointers.
  • The teams traded punches through the remainder of regulation. Bowling Green took its first lead since early in the second half off a pair of free throws with 15 seconds to go. Junior guard Mekhi Lairy put Miami back on top with a layup with 10 seconds to play, 74-74, which eventually sent the game into overtime.
  • Miami opened up an 80-75 lead mid-way through overtime. Bowling Green shrunk the gap to one with just over a minute to go, but the RedHawks sunk all four of their free throws down the stretch to claim the 84-79 win.

NOTES:
  • Brown finished with a career high with 29 points, his third 20-point scoring effort all coming over a three-week stretch. He sunk 10 field goals, including five three-pointers, while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
  • Brown's 29-point, 14-rebound effort was his sixth double-double of the season.
  • It is the seventh time in Miami's last eight games the RedHawks have had a player score 20 or more points.
  • Lairy and Grant were the other two RedHawks to score in double figures with 19 and 18 points, respectively.
  • It was the RedHawks' first overtime game since an 84-79 overtime loss at Western Michigan on Feb. 16, 2019. Miami moves to 76-52 in overtime games.
  • The RedHawks' four-straight road wins are their most consecutive road triumphs since winning four straight on the road during the 2008-09 season.
