OXFORD, Ohio — Lexie Nugent scored a last-minute goal and goalkeeper Isabelle Perese had a stellar performance to secure the victory for the Miami University field hockey team over Ball State on Tuesday afternoon, besting the visiting team by a 2-1 score in Oxford.
Neely Lochmoeller opened up the game's scoring in the first half of the conference game, off a deflection in traffic after a penalty corner. The RedHawks led throughout the first quarter, until Ball State responded with a goal late in the second quarter. The game was tied through three, until Leonor Berlie attempted a shot toward the goal that got on the stick of Nugent on its way in. With the victory over the Cardinals, Miami moves to 1-0, and Ball State falls to 0-1.
MIAMI GAME NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- The 'Hawks carried shots on the day by a 23-3 margin, including a 13-2 advantage for on-goal chances.
- For Miami, Allie Grace Joyner led the RedHawks with four.
- Miami also had the advantage in corners on the day, 11-1. Miami's game-winner in the last minute of regulation was scored off of a corner.
