OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University field hockey team continued their Mid-American Conference schedule on Saturday afternoon with a defense-dominated 1-0 victory over the Bobcats of Ohio University.
The RedHawk defense held Ohio to just six shots and only three on goal, and goalkeeper Isabelle Perese handled it with ease, as the Miami squad notched their third-straight shutout victory of 2021 and their fifth-straight win to move to 2-0 in conference play and 5-0 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- 58:52 | Paula Peña attempted a shot on goal in the last two minutes of regulation, but the Bobcats goalkeeper was able to save it. However, Lexie Nugent got her stick on the rebound and scored to give Miami the victory.
GAME NOTES:
- The goal gave Nugent two goals on the year and Pena her first career point.
- Miami suffocated the Bobcat offense all day, outshooting them by a 22-6 margin and a 15-3 mark on shots on goal, thanks in large part to the backline led by senior Morgan Strum and sophomores Madison Workman and Luli Rosso.
- Claudia Negrete Garcia was the team-leader in shots in the matchup with seven.
- The 'Hawks were 13-5 in penalty corners.
