Miami Travels to Buffalo for 2 p.m. Game on Saturday

SATURDAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue a two-game road stretch when Miami travels to Buffalo for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, Feb. 6. This is the first time this season Miami is facing an opponent for the second time.

ABOUT BUFFALO: The Bulls enter Saturday's game with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-4 MAC mark and are tied for fifth place in the conference standings with Miami. After a 76-75 home loss to Ohio on Jan. 29, Buffalo is coming off a decisive 78-58 win at Ball State on Tuesday. Jeenathan Williams leads the team, averaging 19.2 ppg along with 7.9 rpg. Josh Mballa averages 15.0 ppg and a MAC-leading 10.1 rpg, while Jayvon Graves and Ronaldo Segu each average 14.8 ppg on the season. The Bulls lead the MAC in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.270), rebounding (42.62), offensive rebounds (13.92) and rank second in scoring (81.46).

THE SERIES WITH THE BULLS: Saturday marks the 50th meeting between Miami and Buffalo with the RedHawks owning a 26-23 edge in the all-time series. When playing in Buffalo, the Bulls are 13-10 against Miami. Buffalo notched a 90-62 win in the first meeting this season on Dec. 15 in Oxford. The last time the teams met in Buffalo, Miami posted an 85-79 win in the opening round of the MAC Tournament on March 9, 2020. The Bulls won the regular-season meeting between the teams in Alumni Arena last year just six days prior on March 3, 2020.

TELEVISION: Saturday's game will be carried live on ESPN3.

COLEMAN-LANDS RANKS NINTH NATIONALLY IN ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO: Redshirt junior guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands has been stingy with turnovers and currently boasts a 3.90 assist/turnover ratio with 39 assists to 10 turnovers through 13 games. He leads the MAC and ranks ninth nationally in assist/turnover ratio. 

REDHAWKS LEAD MAC IN FEWEST TURNOVERS: Averaging 10.2 turnovers per game, Miami leads the MAC in fewest turnovers and ranks 10th nationally. Miami has committed fewer turnovers than its opponent in 10 of its 13 games and the same number in one game this season. 

BROWN REACHES 1,000 CAREER POINTS: Senior forward Dalonte Brown became the 37th member of Miami's 1,000 Point Club on Jan. 12, 2021. Brown enters Miami's next game with 1,094 career points and has moved up to 33rd on the list. 

PRECIOUS MOMENTS: Senior Precious Ayah came off the bench to score 11 points off 5-of-5 shooting from the field and knocking down his lone free-throw attempt at Kent State on Feb. 2. He added two rebounds in 15:29 minutes of action.

NOTABLE NUMBERS: Miami has put together several notable numbers recently.
  • Miami shot a season-best 58.7 percent from the floor for the game and was 64.5 percent from the field in the second half vs. BGSU on Jan. 21.
  • The 96 points by Miami against BGSU were its most since a 119-52 win against Wilberforce on Dec. 30, 2019, and the most against a Division I opponent since a 100-94 double-overtime win at Central Michigan on Jan. 5, 2002. 
  • Miami's 42 first-half points at Eastern Michigan on Jan. 23 were its most in an opening half this season, while its 55 points in the second half against BGSU were its most in a half in 2020-21.
ODDS 'N ENDS
  • The RedHawks have had balanced contributions from their starters and their bench. In its nine MAC game, Miami is getting 31.8 percent of its scoring off the bench.
  • After averaging 85.75 ppg in the previous four games, Miami found itself in a defensive battle against Western Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 30, capturing a 65-56 win against the Broncos. The RedHawks scored 68 points in a loss at Kent State on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and averaged 66.50 points per game in their last two outings.
  • Dalonte Brown played in his 100th career game on Tuesday, Dec. 15 against Buffalo. He made his 100th career start against Toledo on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Entering Miami's next game, Brown has played in 109 career games and made 102 career starts.
  • Miami exceeded 80 points in four straight games from Jan. 19-26, scoring 81 against Ball State, 96 against Bowling Green, 85 at Western Michigan and 81 against Toledo. It was the first time since January 1990 that MU has strung together four-straight games scoring 80 or more points when Miami scored 87 at Ohio (Jan. 3, 1990), 83 against Central Michigan (Jan. 6, 1990), 96 at Bowling Green (Jan. 10, 1990) and 94 against Eastern Michigan (Jan. 13, 1990). 
  • In conference-only games, Miami leads the MAC in rebounding defense (35.56), ranks second in the MAC in 3-point field goal percentage (.364). Miami is third in the MAC in turnover margin (+2.00) and defensive rebound percentage (.731).
  • Individually in MAC-only games, sophomore guard Dae Dae Grant ranks first in free-throw percentage (.920). Junior guard Mekhi Lairy ranks third in assist/turnover ratio (2.60) and sixth in assists (4.33). Grant ranks fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.511), while redshirt sophomore guard Myja White ranks eighth (.429). 
  • On the season, Miami ranks second in the MAC in 3-point field goal percentage (.368) and scoring defense (70.57). The RedHawks rank third in blocked shots (2.86). Dae Dae Grant ranks fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.444).
UP NEXT: Miami will be idle on Tuesday with its Feb. 9 game against Eastern Michigan postponed. The RedHawks return to the court, hosting Akron on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU.
