MIAMI, Fla. — The Miami University baseball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon, picking up a 21-4 win in game one against FIU, before falling in a 8-4 decision to the Panthers later that afternoon. The RedHawks are now 4-3 on the 2021 season.
How it Happened:
GAME ONE:
- FIU got on the board first, getting the game's opening scoring play in the first. Miami struck back, scoring in the second inning to tie it up.
- The RedHawks dominated the game after the Panther's first play, with Will Vogelgesang's homer starting it off in the third.
- Nate Stolze scored a run in the fourth after Benji Brokemond singled to center field.
- Miami had an 11-run eighth inning to finish the first game strong. The inning started with a score from Vogelgesang, followed by home runs from Stolze and Dalton Back. Parker Massman made his only appearance at-bat in the final inning, and got a home run to finish out the ninth.
- Jonathan Brand was given the start on the mound for Miami, and pitched four innings with five strikeouts and one run allowed.
GAME TWO:
- FIU scored the first five runs in the game before Miami got on the board in the sixth inning. Nate Stone doubled and scored Back to kick-off their sixth inning.
- Nick Neibauer singled to score Stephen Krause and Stone to make it a 8-3 game. Neibauer finished the inning with Miami's final run of the game to close the inning.
- Kenten Egbert got the second game start for the 'Hawks, pitching three innings with two strikeouts.
