OXFORD, Ohio – Peyton Scott scored 25 points and added 12 rebounds and six assists in a 81-73 win over Evansville on Saturday afternoon inside Millett Hall. The win improves the RedHawks to 3-3 overall, while the Purple Aces drop to 4-3 on the season.
Scott's 25 points helped put her over 1,000 in her career. She was joined by
Maddi Cluse (13),
Jada Duckett (12) and
Ivy Wolf (10) in double figures. The RedHawks shot 49.3% from the floor, recording 22 assists on 36 made buckets and forced 29 Evansville turnovers.
How it Happened:
- After a slow start by both squads, Scott and the RedHawks' offense found its rhythm. The junior scored 10 points in the first quarter to help the RedHawks to a 23-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play.
- A triple from Wolf to open the second quarter gave Miami its largest of the half at 26-12. The Purple Aces answered with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 26-20, but Cluse knocked in a three pointer to extend Miami's lead and the RedHawks posted a 39-29 halftime advantage.
- An Evansville three pointer cut Miami's lead to 56-48 with 2:15 left in the third quarter, but back-to-back layups from Scott and Katey Richason pushed Miami's advantage to 60-48. Miami led 64-52 after three quarters of play.
- Evansville got as close as 70-63 midway through the final stanza but two straight layups from Richason and another from Scott put the game out of reach.
Game Notes:
- Peyton Scott now has 1,007 career points and is one of just 27 RedHawks to surpass 1,000 points in their career.
- Maddi Cluse posted a new career best with 13 points. She added a career high in three-pointers made (3).
- Ivy Wolf recorded a career high five assists.
