Box Score Oxford, Ohio — On Saturday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team defeated Longwood 2-1 in the Mid-American Championship Game. The RedHawks overcame a one-goal deficit and Paula Pena scored the game-winning goal late in the fourth quarter. The win gives Miami their seventh straight MAC title and earns them an NCAA Tournament appearance. Longwood finishes the season 10-7 and Miami improves to 11-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With 13:49 left in the first quarter, Longwood struck first on a rebound shot off of the first penalty corner of the game, putting Longwood ahead of the RedHawks 1-0
- After fifteen minutes played, Longwood's 1-0 advantage remained, as well as a 4-1 shot advantage, while both the RedHawks and Lancers had one penalty corner each.
- In the second quarter, things got a little dicey with under five minutes to play as both teams were issued cards.
- At the half, Longwood still clung to a 1-0 lead. Both teams had three shots and Miami led in penalty corners 3-1.
- The third quarter continued the back-and-forth stalemate that started after the Longwood goal. The RedHawks had a good chance off of a penalty corner with three minutes remaining in the quarter.
- After 45 minutes played, Longwood led in shots 4-3 and Miami led in penalty corners 4-2.
- Lexie Nugent scored the equalizer goal for Miami with 11:43 left in the fourth quarter. The goal was assisted by Claudia Negrete Garcia, making the score 1-1. The goal was Nugent's sixth of the year, and Negrete Garcia picked up her eighth assist of the season.
- With 3:59 left in the game, Paula Pena scored for the RedHawks to make the score 2-1 in favor of the RedHawks. The goal was Pena's sixth of the season.
- Miami's attack was very aggressive in the fourth quarter as they were able to surge ahead and then ultimately stand tough on defense, including a key stop on a Longwood corner late in the game.
