THIS WEEK: The RedHawks return to Oxford for their final home matches of the season when they host Ohio in a Battle of the Bricks match-up at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5 and 5 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 6. Saturday's match will be Senior Night as Miami honors its three seniors:
Gaby Harper,
Sophie Riemersma and
Jennifer Schulze. Both matches are Butler County Nights, while Friday is Youth Night and Celebrating Miami: Tribe and University Night.Â
ABOUT OHIO & THE SERIES WITH THE BOBCATS: Ohio enters the weekend with an 8-16 record and 8-5 Mid-American Conference mark. The Bobcats have won seven of their last eight, including wins at Western Michigan and at Northern Illinois last weekend. Miami is 53-37 against Ohio and 29-13 when playing in Oxford. The teams split the two-match series in Oxford last year with Miami notching a 3-2 win on March 13, 2021 after the Bobcats posted a 3-0 win on March 12, 2021 in Millett Hall.
TELEVISION: Both of Miami's matches against the Bobcats will be streamed on ESPN+.
UP NEXT: The RedHawks play their final three matches on the road, traveling to Kent State for a Friday/Saturday series Nov. 12-13. Friday's match is slated for 6 p.m., while Saturday's is scheduled for 4 p.m. Miami concludes its season at Bowling Green at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
HARPER JOINS 1,000 DIG CLUB: Senior
Gaby Harper recorded her 1,000th career dig against Western Michigan on Oct. 8. She became the 18th player in program history to reach 1,000 career digs and currently owns 1,097. She is 93 away from breaking onto Miami's career Top-10 dig list.Â
HARPER CLOSING IN ON 1,000 CAREER KILLS: Senior
Gaby Harper owns 975 career kills entering the week and needs just 25 more to become the 22nd member of the 1,000-kill club and become the ninth player in program history to hit the 1,000 milestone for both kills and digs.
ODDS 'N ENDS:
- Senior Gaby Harper has played in 104 career matches, eclipsing the 100-match mark against Bowling Green on October 20. Senior Sophie Riemersma has played in 93 career matches.
- Sophomore Maggie McCrary ranks sixth in the MAC in hitting percentage in conference matches, hitting .320.
- Senior Gaby Harper has produced 10 kill/dig double-doubles this season, including six of Miami's last nine matches. Senior Sophie Riemersma has seven kill/dig double-doubles, including four of MU's last six matches.
- RedHawk players have put together five 20-plus dig matches this season with three coming from sophomore Taylor Nomanson and two from freshman Margo Lawson. Nomanson's 25 digs against Marshall on Aug. 28 are the most by a RedHawk this season. She notched her last 20-dig outing with 23 at Toledo on Oct. 29. Lawson posted 23 against Western Michigan on Oct. 8.
- With its 3-1 win on Oct. 29 at Toledo, Miami recorded its third-straight win and fourth in six matches.Â
- Freshman Brooke Cirigliano leads Miami with 69 blocks this season and has recorded at least one block in each of the RedHawks' 23 matches. She has posted 17 multi-block matches, including a seven-block outing at Toledo on Oct. 29 and two six-block efforts against Howard on Sept. 4 and Northern Illinois on Oct. 9.
- Miami boasts seven newcomers on its 2021 roster, comprising 41% of the MU roster.
ECLIPSING 750 CAREER WINS: With a 3-0 win versus Buffalo on Jan. 22, 2021, Miami head coach
Carolyn Condit posted her 750th career win. Condit owns a 768-583 career record entering her 42nd season as a head coach. Condit's 768 total victories are tied for eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches, and tied for 24th all-time. Owning more victories than any coach in the history of the Miami Athletic Department, Condit holds a 669-505 record and is in her 38th season in charge of the Red and White. Condit is the only volleyball coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference to win over 300 league matches, holding a conference mark of 370-225.
