Red Savage Named to Preliminary Roster For U.S. National Junior Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Miami freshman forward Red Savage is one of 31 players named to the preliminary roster for the 2022 U.S. National Junior Team, USA Hockey announced today. The team will open training camp Dec. 12 in Plymouth, Mich. as the players compete for 25 spots on the U.S. roster for the 2022 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship (held Dec. 26, 2021 - Jan. 5, 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta).
Savage, a 2021 Detroit Red Wings draft pick, is no stranger to wearing the Stars and Stripes. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native previously played with the United States National Development Program, registering six goals and 10 assists in 18 USHL league games. He was a member of the U17 and U18 National Teams, registering a combined 26 points in 31 games. Savage also represented the USA at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in 2019.
The United States enters the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship as the defending gold medalist and will be attempting to win a medal for the sixth time in seven years. The complete U.S preliminary roster is available here.
