11/3/2021 10:01:00 AM | Men's Basketball
CLEVELAND—Junior guard Dae Dae Grant was selected to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Second Team as the league office announced its men's basketball preseason coaches' poll and preseason all-conference teams on Wednesday morning. Miami University was forecast to finish seventh with 92 points, a mere three points behind the fifth-place and six points behind the fourth-place predictions. The RedHawks received one vote to win the MAC Tournament.
Grant was a Third-Team All-MAC selection in 2020-21 and earned MAC Player of the Week, College Sports Madness MAC Player of the Week and Lou Henson National Player of the Week by CollegeInsider.com honors following a three-game week where he averaged 21.3 ppg and shot 57.9 percent from the field while leading the RedHawks to three straight wins. He tied for the team lead in scoring, averaging 13.7 ppg on the season, and led MU in scoring in MAC play, averaging 14.5 ppg.
Miami returns 12 players, including all five starters, from a season ago as the RedHawks posted their first winning season since 2009 and earned a berth in the eight-team MAC Tournament. RedHawk returns account for 99 percent of Miami's scoring and 98 percent of its rebounding from a season ago.
Among the RedHawks' robust list of returners is fifth-year senior forward Dalonte Brown, who became the 37th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points, senior guard Mekhi Lairy, who has played in every game during his Miami career and is closing in on 1,000 career points, and Grant. The trio started all 23 games for the RedHawks last season. In addition to returning a strong nucleus of players, Miami adds five talented newcomers to its roster for the 2021-22 campaign.
Miami hosts Capital at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4 for an exhibition game in a final tune-up for the 2021-22 campaign. The game is free and open to the public. The RedHawks travel to Georgia Tech for a 7:30 p.m. game on Tuesday, Nov. 9 to open the season and host Lamar in their home-opener at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13.
