OXFORD, Ohio— Myja White scored a career-high 17 points to lead four RedHawks in double figures and Miami used a stifling defensive performance to blow out Heidelberg 90-45 Saturday afternoon. MU held the visitors to 15% shooting in the first half (4-26 FG) en route to building a 31-point lead at the break.
Dae Dae Grant scored 16 points and dished out a career-high eight assists for the RedHawks (4-0), while
Mekhi Lairy added 11 points and
Precious Ayah chipped in 10 for Miami.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Miami used an 18-2 run in the first half to take a 20-point lead before the midway point of the period (27-7).
- White hit four of his five three-pointers in the first half, going a perfect 4-4 from downtown before halftime to spark MU to a 45-14 advantage.
- The RedHawks shot 56.7% from the floor in the second half to keep Heidelberg at bay, holding a lead of 30+ points the rest of the way.
- The margin ballooned to as much as 50 with seven minutes remaining (an 80-30 Miami lead).
NOTES
- Miami outrebounded Heidelberg 48-32, led by Dalonte Brown's nine boards (eight in the first half).
- 13 players saw action for Miami and 12 of them scored.
- Miami had 14 assists on 16 first-half field goals, while Heidelberg had only one assist in the period.
- MU finished with 13 three-pointers, nine of which came in the opening 20 minutes.
- The RedHawks led start to finish for the third consecutive game; MU hasn't trailed since the final minute of a season-opening comeback win at Georgia Tech.
- Miami improved to 5-0 all-time vs. Heidelberg.
- The contest was a regular-season game for the RedHawks, but an exhibition for the Student Princes.
- Miami is 4-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season.
