OXFORD, Ohio—Junior guard
Dae Dae Grant's 20 points led five RedHawk players in double figures as the Miami University men's basketball team (2-0) cruised to a 104-75 win over Lamar University (1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Millett Hall. The RedHawks drained 17 triples on the day, one off a program record that was set last season at Central Michigan, as the Red and White scored in triple digits for the first time since 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Miami opened up a 20-7 lead by the 14:47 mark of the first half with Grant going 3-for-4 from long range in the opening minutes.
- Continuing to pile on the points, Miami pushed its lead to 28 by the 4:43 mark off a Grant triple to capture its largest advantage of the half, 52-24.
- The RedHawks took a 58-32 lead into the intermission, shooting an impressive 57.6 from the field and a sizzling 60.0 percent from 3-point range.
- A layup from senior forward Dalonte Brown at 16:12 in the second half capped an 8-1 flurry that included triples from senior guard Mekhi Lairy and redshirt junior guard Myja White and pushed the RedHawk advantage past the 30-point mark, 71-35.
- Back-to-back buckets from sophomore forward Kamari Williams extended Miami's lead to a game-high 38 points with 6:04 to play, 95-57, and Miami cruised to the win.
- Miami's shooting from the floor was even hotter in the second half, connecting on an impressive 64.5 percent over the final 20 minutes and shooting 60.9 percent from the field for the game.
NOTES:
- Miami's 27 assists tie for eighth on the RedHawks' single-game list. Senior guard Isaiah Coleman-Lands tied a career high with 10 assists to lead MU.
- In addition to Grant's 20 points, Lairy tallied 15, Brown notched 13, Williams added 12 and senior forward Elijah McNamara chipped in 10 points.
- Brown and senior forward Precious Ayah led Miami with seven rebounds apiece.
- The RedHawks were 5-of-7 from 3-point range to open the game and finished the first half going 12-of-20 from beyond the arc.
- Miami knocked down 17 triples on the afternoon, led by Grant's career-high-tying six treys. The team's 17 treys tie for second on the single-game list at Miami.
- The 104 points are the most for the RedHawks since a 119-52 win against Wilberforce on Dec. 30, 2019, which was also Miami's last 100-point scoring effort.
- With the win, Miami moved to 94-23 in home openers.
