Athens, Ohio. — On Friday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team battled Ohio University in a thrilling and back and forth double overtime, 4-3 victory.Â
Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the game-winner in double overtime to help the RedHawks improve to 5-1 in the MAC and 8-10 overall, while OU falls to 3-3 in the MAC and 6-10 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks offense struck early, as Morgan Sturm put the ball on the back of the cage on an assist from Madison Workman, and Luli Rosso. Making the score 1-0, 1:38 into the game.
- With just under three minutes to play in the first quarter, Ohio University grabbed the equalizer putting the score at 1-1 after 15 minutes played.
- After the first quarter, both teams had 2 shots, while Miami had a 2-1 advantage in penalty corners.
- Nine minutes into the second quarter, Ohio University took a 2-1 lead.
- Then just a minute later, Miami's Jenna Kirby knotted the game back up for the RedHawks at 2-2.
- The game was all tied at 2-2 at the half, while Ohio led in shots 6-5 and penalty corners were even at two each.
- After a scoreless back and forth third quarter, and much of the same to begin the fourth, the Bobcats pulled ahead once again 3-2. With 5:03 to play in the fourth quarter.
- Then, with 2:03 left Claudia Negrete Garcia responded scoring the tying and overtime forcing goal, making the game 3-3.
- The first overtime was scoreless, Miami ended up getting up three shots compared to Ohio's one but wasn't able to capitalize sending the game to another overtime.
- To end the thriller, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the game-winning goal on a backhand shot from the top of the circle. The goal was the second of the game for Negrete Garcia and the decisive goal in a 4-3 Miami win.
- The RedHawks ended the game leading in shots 18-11, while both teams had ten penalty corners, and goaltender, Isabelle Perese also came up big and finished the contest with seven saves.
