RedHawk Comeback Falls Short in Battle of the Bricks

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University women's basketball team fell short against the Bobcats on Wednesday evening 72-63. The RedHawks fall to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in the MAC. The Bobcats are 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. 

How it Happened: 
  • Katie Davidson and Jada Duckett led the way in the first quarter with four points apiece as the RedHawks held a 14-12 advantage after the first quarter.
  • The RedHawks trailed against the Bobcats 28-24 going into the third quarter. Duckett continued to lead the way in points with Kelly McLaughlin joining her, combining for 12 of Miami's 24 points. 
  • The Bobcats outscored the RedHawks 28-13 during the third quarter, extending their lead to 56-37. Peyton Scott took over as leading scorer for the RedHawks with 11 points and broke her career high in rebounds. 
  • Miami used a 14-3 run midway through the fourth quarter to cut Ohio's lead to 69-60 with 50 seconds to play. Davidson scored eight points during the run to extend her double-figure scoring streak to eight games to begin her career.
  • Scott added a triple moments later to shrink Ohio's lead to 70-63 but the RedHawks could get no closer.

Game Notes: 
  • Scott recorded a career high 11 rebounds. Her previous best was eight boards versus Bowling Green earlier this year. Scott added 19 points, for her first double-double of her career. 
  • Duckett matched her career high with eight points.
  • Vannessa Garrelts returned to action after missing the past month with an injury. In her return she scored three points.
