RedHawks Fall Short at NIU, 66-52

DEKALB, Ill. – The Miami University women's basketball team dropped a 66-52 decision to the Northern Illinois Huskies on Saturday afternoon in DeKalb. The loss drops Miami to 1-14 overall and 0-11 in Mid-American Conference play while the Huskies improve to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
 
How it Happened:
  • After one of its best offensive performances of the year versus Ball State on Wednesday, the RedHawks shot just 3-of-20 in the first quarter and trailed 16-10 at NIU after 10 minutes of play.
  • NIU opened the second quarter with a three pointer to take its largest lead of the half, 19-10 before Miami answered with a 10-1 run to knot the score at 20-20. Miami's run continued and led 30-24 as Jada Duckett connected on an inside look with 2:14 to play. Miami was up 32-29 at the half.
  • The Huskies used a 16-5 run to start the second half, forcing DeUnna Hendrix to call a timeout with NIU up 45-37 with 3:33 left in the third quarter. NIU extend its lead to 47-37 before Kenzie Schmitz drained a three pointer to end the Huskies' run. Moments later, Peyton Scott found Duckett for an open layup and the NIU lead was down to 47-42 late in the third. The Huskies drained a triple at the end of the third to lead 50-42.
  • Miami cut the lead down to six several times, but could get no closer as the Huskies picked up a 66-52 victory.
 
 Game Notes:
  • Scott finished the game with 10 points and has now scored in double digits in every game this year. She also had nine assists and now has 22 assists in her last two games.
  • Abbey Hoff finished with 11 points, one shy of her season best.
  • Duckett added eight points, one shy of her career best, established earlier this year at Akron.
