RedHawks Seize 81-71 Win Over Cardinals Tuesday Night

OXFORD, Ohio--Behind a complete team effort that included 23 second-chance points and 25 points off turnovers, the Miami University men's basketball team (5-4; 2-2 Mid-American Conference) seized an 81-71 win over the Ball State Cardinals (6-6; 4-3 MAC) on Tuesday evening in Millett Hall. The RedHawks had four different players score in double digits with redshirt junior forward James Beck amassing career highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
ÂHow It Happened:
- Ball State led the entire first half, pushing its lead to seven points, but Miami finished the half on a 12-6 run to trail just one at the intermission, 36-35.
- The teams went back and forth throughout the second half. Miami took the lead for good off a pair of Coleman-Lands free throws at the 12:10 mark of the second half.Â
- Miami led by as many as six off a James Beck layup at the 5:06 mark, but Ball State inched back to within one with 3:05 to play, 64-63. The RedHawks then went on a 7-0 run to push its lead to eight, 71-63, and the Cardinals got no closer than seven over the final minutes.
Game Notes:
- James Beck recorded his second double-double of the season and fourth by a RedHawk this year in 25 minutes of action with his 17 points and 11 rebounds..Â
- Senior forward Dalonte Brown (17 points), junior guard Mekhi Lairy (12 points), and redshirt junior Isaiah Coleman-Lands (10 points) all added double-digit scoring efforts to Miami's total.Â
- Miami applied defensive pressure all night, scoring 25 points off of 18 Ball State turnovers
- On the offensive end, Miami remained steady, recording only eight turnovers for the whole contest.Â
- The RedHawks dominated the offensive glass, snatching 13 rebounds on their end leading to 23 second-chance points.

It's a very quick turn-around for the RedHawks, who host Bowling Green at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 in the second of three games over a five-day stretch.
