
Miami Falls to Indiana in Pitcher’s Dual

The RedHawks fell to the Hoosiers in the bottom of the seventh by a 1-0 margin.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Miami University softball team (12-8) fell to Indiana on Tuesday by a 1-0 margin.
Miami 0, Indiana 1
Courtney Vierstra pitched the complete game in the circle for the RedHawks as she threw 6.2 scoreless innings. Vierstra struck out 11 batters and gave up six hits and five walks.
Indiana was able to load the bases in the bottom of the second but a diving catch in left field by Hannah Obrey ended the inning to keep the game scoreless.
The RedHawks made key defensive plays to keep the game scoreless heading into the seventh inning. Riley Coyne ended the third inning by throwing out a runner trying to steal second base. Maclai Branson snagged a line drive at third base to end the fourth inning. Obrey made a sliding catch in shallow left field for the first out in the sixth.
Miami had a base runner in the top of the seventh inning but would strand the runner to move into the bottom of the seventh. Indiana drew two walks in the bottom of the seventh as the Hoosiers had two on and two out. Indiana beat out an infield ball as the lead runner just beat out the throw to the plate to give the Hoosiers the walk-off win.
Allie Cummins and Jada Dotson each had a hit for the RedHawks.
UP AHEAD
The RedHawks host Michigan State for a three-game series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. while first pitch on Sunday is scheduled for noon.
