DAYTON, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team saw its three-game win streak come to an end as it fell to Wright State in a midweek contest, 16-5, on Tuesday. The RedHawks fall to 7-7 on the season, while the Raiders improve to 6-9.
Miami fell behind 6-0 after two innings. It got on the board when junior shortstop
Tyler Wardwell hit his first career home run for the RedHawks.
The RedHawks kept the Raiders off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. Sophomore catcher
Cole Andrews led off with a single and eventually came across to score the lone run of the inning for Miami, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Raiders.
Wright State expanded their lead to 8-2 before the Miami offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 8-4 in the sixth. A double from senior first baseman
Charlie Harrigan scored senior right fielder
Landon Stephens, while Andrews singled up the middle to score Stephens.
The Raiders put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. The RedHawks were able to score only once more as senior designated hitter
Cal Elvers drove home Andrews.
Andrews led Miami hitting, finishing 3-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
The RedHawks return to action Thursday as Penn State comes to town for a three-game series. Thursday's game begins at 6 p.m. Friday's first pitch will be at 5 p.m. and Sunday's finale is at 1 p.m.
