OXFORD – It might as well have been
Lauren Dickerson night on Monday evening at Millett Hall as the RedHawks knocked off Western Michigan, 70-67. Dickerson drained a three-pointer in the second quarter to surpass 2,000 points for her career. Dickerson joins Courtney Osborn as the only RedHawks in school history to record at least 2,000 points in a career.
Dickerson finished the game with 21 points and chipped in seven assists and five rebounds as the RedHawks improve to 10-11 overall and 3-6 in Mid-American Conference play. WMU falls to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in MAC play.
Savannah Kluesner joined Dickerson in double figures with 17 points and added 11 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
Monique Esbrand and
Peyton Scott each had nine points.
Miami held a lead for much of the game, controlling the game by a 47-35 margin late into the third quarter. The Broncos roared back, eventually taking a 52-51 lead with 7:19 to play.
WMU maintained the one-point advantage at 63-62 with 3:10 remaining before a Dickerson jumper put Miami up for good at 64-63 with 2:18 to play. Even with all of her scoring, Dickerson's biggest play of the night was a nifty pass to Kluesner for a layup to move Miami's lead to 66-63.
Miami returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 5 with a home game against Toledo for Girls and Women in Sport Night. Opening tip is slated for 7 p.m.
