Lins de Mello Repeats as MAC Champion in 200 Free

The RedHawks are in fourth place after three days at the 2020 MAC Championships.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Miami University women's swimming and diving team is in fourth place with 285 points after three days of competition at the 2020 Mid-American Conference Championships in Buffalo.
Camila Lins de Mello defended her title in the 200 free, becoming the MAC Champion by swimming a 1:45.96 – the third-fastest time in program history. She beat the field by 1.76 seconds. Also in the 200 free, Ashlyn Underhill finished fourth (1:48.78) and Claire Doerr finished 13th (1:50.76), both swimming their fastest times of the season.
In the 100 fly, Kayleigh Cannon swam the third-fastest time in program history (54.02) and a lifetime best, finishing fifth overall. Madison Hoehn and Izzy Herb finished 13th (56.29) and 16th (56.96), respectively.
Hannah Fuchs finished seventh in the 400 IM (4:22.18). Carolyn Jungers (4:26.13), Bri Alexander (4:26.39) and Alexandra Spaczay (4:27.90) finished one after another in the consolation final with Jungers leading the way at 12th overall.
Anna Martin led the way in the 100 breast, touching the wall eighth (1:03.11). Anna Justinak won the consolation final, coming in ninth overall with a lifetime best (1:02.97). Sam Sutton finished 14th (1:03.94).
In the 100 back, Michaela Mitchell finished 11th (55.80) and Izzy Herb finished 16th (56.28).
Mitchell, Justinak, Cannon and Lins de Mello wrapped up the day with a fourth-place finish in the 400 medley relay (3:42.76).
The teams conclude action on Saturday with swimming prelims at 10:30 a.m. and finals for swimming and the 3-mtr dive at 6:30 p.m. Swimmers will compete in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly in both the morning and evening sessions while the 1650 free and 400 free relay will only take place during the evening session. After the competition concludes, the championship awards will be presented, starting at approximately 9:25 p.m.
