GRANT SETS CAREER HIGH: Freshman guard Dae Dae Grant went for a career-high 16 points in Miami's game against Akron on Tuesday. He was 5-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Grant had three assists and five rebounds in 26 minutes of action. He is now Miami's third leading scorer at 9.3 points per game, and ranks third on the team with 2.1 assists per contest.
REDHAWKS IN TOP 100: The RedHawks rank in the top 100 in several national NCAA Division I statistical categories. Miami is 46th in the country with 9.0 three-point makes per game. It also ranks 45th with 171 total makes and 74th in three-point field goal percentage (.357). The 'Hawks are 70th in the nation in fewest overall turnovers at 228 and 55th in fewest turnovers per game at 12.0. Miami is 82nd in the country with a .734 free throw percentage.
ABOUT EASTERN MICHIGAN: The Eagles are 10-9 overall and 0-6 in the MAC. Despite the league record, they have been competitive in almost every game with four of their losses being six points or less. That includes a 62-59 defeat in their last game against current MAC leader Bowling Green. Eastern Michigan, which runs a version of Syracuse's famous zone defense, is allowing opponents only 62.8 points per game. However it is scoring only 64.9 points per game itself, and that falls to 58.3 points per game in conference contests. The Eagles are led by junior guard Noah Morgan with 11.4 points per game. Redshirt junior forward Ty Groce is right behind him at 11.3 points per contest.
THE SERIES WITH THE EAGLES: Miami leads the all-time series with Eastern Michigan, 50-27. In a grind-out, defensive battle, the RedHawks defeated the Eagles, 59-48, in Ypsilanti in their last meeting on Feb. 2, 2019. They forced 16 EMU turnovers and held the Eagles to 34.7 percent shooting for the game. Dalonte Brown led Miami with 15 points in the victory.
UP AHEAD: Miami remains at home for the third-straight game as it welcomes Central Michigan to Millett Hall on Tuesday. Tip time is at 7 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Van Wagner.
