Miami Men and Women Fall to Michigan and Navy in Season Opener

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Miami University swimming and diving team began the regular season with a double dual meet, at Michigan and against Navy, on Friday evening. The RedHawk women fell to Navy by a 97.5-202.5 margin and Michigan by a 71-229 margin while the RedHawk men fell to Navy 48-250 and Michigan 45-253.

Camila Lins de Mello took home two event wins for the RedHawks, winning the 200 free (1:48.46) and the 200 IM (2:0315). Lins de Mello also swam the quickest Miami time in the women's 100 free (50.30), finishing third overall.

Caroline Ehlers finished second overall in the 50 free (23.87). Nic Wamsley was the fastest Miami swimmer in the men's 50 free (21.16) and 100 free (46.79), finishing sixth and seventh, respectively.

Gordon Wheeler had the top Miami time in both the 200 free (1:43.12) and the 500 free (4:42.17), finishing seventh and ninth on the men's side. Molly Zilch had the top Miami time in the women's 500 free (5:07.51), finishing seventh. In the 1000 free, Emma Bradley finished fifth overall (10:32.85) for the women and Austin Theobald finished ninth overall (10:07.88).

Hannah Fuchs and Noah Barr finished with the quickest Miami times in both the 100 breast and 200 breast. Fuchs was the runner up in the 200 breast (2:20.54) and fifth in the 100 breast (1:06.17). Barr was ninth in both the 100 breast (57.91) and 200 breast (2:10.73).

Izzy Herb had the fastest Miami women's time in both the 100 back (58.63) and 200 back (2:06.47), finishing eighth and seventh, respectively. On the men's side, Ryan Wagner finished seventh in the 100 back (52.40) and Fitz Miller finished ninth in the 200 back (1:54.69).

Ashlyn Underhill was the top Miami finisher in the 100 fly (57.71), tying for seventh, as well as the 200 fly (2:08.20), finishing eighth. On the men's side, Preston Harrison was sixth in the 100 fly (50.88) and Spencer Klinsky was seventh in the 200 fly (1:53.37).

Jack Clouatre finished ninth in the 200 IM (2:00.22).

The Miami women finished fifth in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay while the Miami men finished sixth in both relays. In the 200 medley relay, Herb, Sam Sutton, Madison Hoehn and Ehlers comprised the top team (1:46.76) for the Miami women. Jacob Peloquin, Noah Barr, Wamsley and Nick Ward made up the top team (1:33.59) for the Miami men. In the 400 free relay, it was Zilch, Ashlyn Underhill, Ehlers and Lins de Mello (3:32.52) for the women and Wamsley, Ben Chatwin, Cole Grosshans and Ward (3:09.09) for the men.

In the diving well, Karsten Dixon finished eighth in both the 1-mtr dive (240.30) and the 3-mtr dive (247.40). Lexie Lanye led the women in the 1-mtr dive (216.65) with a seventh-place finish while Maddie Folta was seventh in the 3-mtr dive (218.25).
