TOLEDO, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team pounded out 15 hits as it took down Toledo, 10-6, to open its weekend series on Friday. The RedHawks improve to 23-5 overall and 6-1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets fall to 9-16 overall and 0-5 in the MAC.
Miami got on the board in the top of the first when junior third baseman
Landon Stephens drove home sophomore center fielder
Cristian Tejada on a sacrifice fly. It stayed that way until the fourth inning when Toledo scored two to take a 2-1 advantage.
The RedHawks broke things open with five in the top of the fifth. Tejada led off with a walk. Junior shortstop
Will Vogelgesang reached base on a bunt, while
Landon Stephens walked to load the bases with no one out. A double to left center by freshman designated hitter
Cole Andrews scored Tejada and Vogelgesang and gave Miami the lead back at 3-2.
Landon Stephens then scored on a passed ball. A single redshirt freshman first baseman
Reid Norberg brought home Andrews and made it 5-2. After base hits by junior catcher
Cal Elvers and redshirt junior second baseman
Jordan Stephens reloaded the bases, a sac fly by sophomore right fielder
Parker Massman scored Norberg and made it 6-2.
Toledo took advantage of some walks and a passed ball to score three runs in the bottom of the sixth and pull within one at 6-5. Miami got one back in the top of the seventh when Massman singled home Elvers to increase the advantage to 7-5.

Colin Shepherd moved each up a base. Junior
Charlie Harrigan pinch hit immediately afterwards and hit a sac fly that scored Vogelgesang.
Landon Stephens would score on a wild pitch, while a single to left center by
Jordan Stephens brought home Elvers and made it 10-5.
The Rockets got one back in the bottom of the ninth before Miami finished off the 10-6 win.
Vogelgesang finished the game 4-for-6 with two runs scored. Andrews was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Elvers finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Massman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Freshman
Sam Bachman improved to 5-0 on the season with the victory. He allowed three earned runs on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Senior
Shane Smith pitched the final 3.1 innings to earn his second save.
Miami's series with Toledo continues Saturday. First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+.
