Game 27
Northern Kentucky Norse (5-20) at Miami RedHawks (21-5)
Wednesday, April 3 – 5 p.m.
McKie Field at Hayden Park – Oxford, Ohio
ON TAP
The Miami University baseball team welcomes Northern Kentucky to McKie Field at Hayden Park on Wednesday for a midweek game. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. and it will air live on RedHawks All-Access for those who have a subscription.
ABOUT NKU
The Norse are 5-20 on the season. That includes a 4-5 record in Horizon League play. Last weekend they dropped two out of three to Oakland. NKU has some pop in its bats as it has hit 16 home runs on the season. Its top hitter is senior first baseman Will Haueter. He is hitting .305 with three home runs and 12 RBIs. This is the first of five straight days of games for the Norse, who are undecided at this time on their starting pitcher.
SERIES WITH NKU
Miami holds a 20-3 lead in the all-time series with Northern Kentucky. The RedHawks have won five straight against the Norse, including a 16-1 victory earlier this season on March 13 in Highland Heights. Miami scored in multiple runs in six different innings in that game with junior third baseman Landon Stephens and junior shortstop Will Vogelgesang driving in three RBIs apiece.
WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE
Miami head coach Danny Hayden held his weekly press conference on Tuesday. He discussed the sweep of Eastern Michigan this past weekend, but also stressed the importance of learning from mistakes and getting better even when the team is winning. He also previewed this week's games against NKU at Toledo. The entire video can be seen above.
NOTABLE
Miami has started the season 13-0 at home in 2019. That is the second-best start in school history behind the 1971 team that won its first 15 games in Oxford. A caveat to that record is that teams in 1915 (6-0), 1917 (1-0), 1926 (6-0), 1927 (6-0) and 1950 (11-0) won all of their home games on their schedule and could have conceivably had the chance to break the record themselves.
UP AHEAD
Miami travels to Toledo this weekend for a three-game series. Friday's game begins at 3:05 p.m., while both Saturday and Sunday will start at 1:05 p.m.
