Game will resume at noon, followed by regularly scheduled contest
OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team engaged in a classic pitchers' duel with Ball State to open their series on Friday before the rains came and forced the game to be suspended.
The game will resume Saturday at noon. It is the top of the sixth with a runner on third base for the Cardinals and two out. John Ricotta will be at the plate with a 1-2 count.
Prior to the rains both Miami freshman pitcher Sam Bachman and Ball State sophomore Drey Jameson were unhittable. Bachman did not allow a hit over 5.2 innings pitched and struck out seven. Jameson allowed only one hit and had nine strikeouts through five innings.
The best chance for either team to score came in the bottom of the third. With one out, redshirt freshman first baseman Reid Norberg drew a walk. After the second out was recorded, sophomore center fielder Cristian Tejada followed with a single up the middle. Junior shortstop Will Vogelgesang walked to load the bases. Junior second baseman Landon Stephens came up and sent a ball to deep left field, but with the winds blowing in it came up just short of home run distance.
Saturday's regularly scheduled contest will now start 45 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.
