HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Miami University baseball team had its offense rolling Wednesday as it had seven extra-base hits in a 16-1 victory over Northern Kentucky. With their ninth straight win, the RedHawks improve to 12-3, while the Norse fall to 1-12.
With one out in the top of the first, redshirt junior leftfielder
Kyle Winkler hit a single through the right side. Junior third baseman
Landon Stephens followed with a double to score him. Stephens got to third base on the attempt to throw Winkler out at home, and then scored on a wild pitch.
The RedHawks showed off their power in the top of the third inning. Stephens hit his second home run of the season over the centerfield wall, a two-run shot that made it 4-0. After a single by junior shortstop
Will Vogelgesang, a two-run homer from junior designated hitter
Cal Elvers gave Miami a 6-0 advantage.
The Norse got one back in the bottom of the third with three hits. It would be the only run scored on RedHawk starter, junior pitcher
Nick Urbantke. He finished with one run allowed on four hits in 4.0 innings of work.
Miami scored twice in each of the next three innings. It was highlighted by a triple to right center by Vogelgesang in the top of the sixth that scored Winkler and junior first baseman
Charlie Harrigan and put the RedHawks in front 10-1. In the top of the seventh, Winkler hit his third home run of the season, a two-run blast that made it 12-1.
In the top of the ninth, sophomore centerfielder
Cristian Tejada led off with a single. Winkler and redshirt junior pinch hitter
Jordan Stephens each drew walks to load the bases with no one out. A single by Harrigan brought home Tejada and made it 13-1. A sac fly by freshman pinch hitter
Steve Hamer scored Winkler. Senior right fielder
Mackay Williams completed the RedHawk scoring with a double to right center that scored
Jordan Stephens and Hamer.
Landon Stephens finished the game 2-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Vogelgesang was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Tejada, Winkler and Elvers each also had two hits for the RedHawks.

Shane Smith earned the victory after allowing no runs on three hits in 2.0 innings of work.
Miami returns to action this weekend as it hosts St. Bonaventure for a three-game series. Friday's game begins at 5 p.m. Saturday's will start at 4 p.m. and Sunday's first pitch is at 1 p.m.
