CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its men's basketball All-Conference teams on Monday. For Miami, sophomore guard Nike Sibande was named Third-Team All-MAC. Senior guard Darrian Ringo was named to the All-Defensive Team. Freshman guard Mekhi Lairy earned a spot on the All-Freshmen Team.
Sibande has been Miami's leading scorer at 15.8 points per game. He is also fourth on the RedHawks with 4.9 rebounds per contest. His 72 three-pointer made ranks fifth on the Red and White's single-season record list. Sibande has scored in double figures in 25 games this year and became the 35th member of Miami's 1000-point club. He is the first in school history to accomplish that by his sophomore season. This is the second straight All-MAC honor for Sibande as he was selected honorable mention, along with MAC Freshman of the Year in 2018.
Ringo has continued to show his defensive prowess as he ranks second in the MAC with 67 total steals, an average of 2.2 per game. His total steals ranks 22nd in the country, while his steals per game average ranks 25th. He has helped the RedHawks' defense hold opponents to 69.5 points per game. This is the second straight season Ringo has been named to the MAC All-Defensive Team.
Lairy has had a strong rookie campaign in which he has averaged 6.5 points per game. He also has 43 assists and 17 steals on the year. Lairy has made seven starts this season and has scored in double figures in six contests. That includes a career-high 16 points in the RedHawks' last game at Ohio this past Friday.
The RedHawks are the ninth seed in the MAC Tournament and have traveled to eighth seed Akron for a first round game later Monday. Tip time is 8 p.m. and it will air live on ESPN+. An audio broadcast of the game will be available on the Miami Sports Network from Learfield IMG College Tunein App.
