OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University baseball team upped its win streak to eight games and completed a four-game sweep of Youngstown State with three victories on Sunday. It started by quickly finishing off Saturday's suspended game with a 5-2 win. The bats then came alive during the doubleheader as the RedHawks took game one, 9-1, and the nightcap, 11-1. Miami improves to 11-3 on the season, while the Penguins fall to 0-13.
SUSPENDED GAME
Last night's rain postponed game was brought to a quick conclusion in only 11 minutes. After the RedHawks were retired in order in the bottom of the eighth, senior pitcher
Andy Almquist came in to pitch the ninth. He pitched a perfect frame, striking out two to earn his second save and preserve the 5-2 victory.
Spencer Mraz picks up the victory to improve to 3-1 on the season.
GAME 1
With one out in the bottom of the first, junior third baseman
Landon Stephens singled to left center. After a groundout advanced him to third, a single to centerfield from freshman designated hitter
Cole Andrews scored Stephens and put Miami on the board first.
Junior shortstop
Will Vogelgesang reached on an error to begin the bottom of the second. He then stole third. The Penguin catcher's throw went into the outfield to allow him to score. Later in the inning, senior right fielder
Mackay Williams hit his second home run of the season, a solo shot over the right center wall that made it 3-0.
The RedHawks broke it open with four runs in the bottom of the third. Junior first baseman
Charlie Harrigan led off with a double to left center. A single by Andrews moved him to third, while a single by redshirt junior left fielder
Kyle Winkler brought Harrigan home. Vogelgesang walked to load the bases. Andrews then scored off a passed ball. A sacrifice fly by junior catcher
Cal Elvers brought home Winkler and made it 6-0. A double by Williams scored Vogelgesang and made it 7-0.
In the bottom of the fourth Stephens led off with a single through the left side. Andrews and Winkler each drew walks to load the bases with one out. Vogelgesang was then hit by the pitch to force home Stephens. An infield single by Elvers brought home Andrews to complete Miami's scoring.
Meanwhile, the RedHawk pitching kept the Penguins at bay during the majority of the game. Senior

GAME 2
The nightcap was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore centerfielder

The Penguins got one back in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 4-1.
In the bottom of the fifth, Vogelgesang and Williams each drew walks. Sophomore right fielder
Parker Massman put down a sacrifice bunt to move both into scoring position. Sophomore catcher
Nate Stolze then doubled to left field to bring them both home. Redshirt freshman second baseman
Reid Norberg was hit by a pitch, and when Tejada hit a double to deep left center, Stolze and Norberg both scored to make it 8-1.
With Vogelgesang on first in the bottom of the sixth, Williams hit his second triple of the game to bring him home. Williams scored himself on a sac fly from Massman.
Miami completed its scoring in the bottom of the eighth when Massman tripled home freshman
