Miami athletes will split off to Ohio State Friday and Notre Dame Saturday.
OXFORD, Ohio - With an eye towards preparing for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championship, the Miami University track and field team will converge on Ohio State's Buckeye Tuneup Friday, with several runners going to Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday.
The RedHawks enter the final week of the indoor regular season on a roll, with four school records being recorded over the last two weeks. Two of those came last weekend at Grand Valley State's Big Meet, as senior Kalliopi Kountouri ran the 600m in 1:30.93 to capture a program-best mark and Sean Torpy ran a top-20 national time of 1:48.91 in the 800m.
In other results last week, the women's 4x400 team continued their hot streak with a second and a first-place finish on Friday and Saturday night respectively. Olivia Bechtel took a top-five spot in her first-ever collegiate 60m run, the RedHawk quartet of Rachel Kotchman, Emma Bryant, McKenna Fry, and Emma Mashburn all finished top-seven in the 800m, and Hannah Falcione took the victory in the triple jump. Over on the men, Christopher Torpy finished hot on the heels of his brother with his own nationally-ranked 800 run of 1:49.60.
All of the RedHawk women will travel to Columbus on Friday for the Buckeye Tuneup as a final warm-up for next week's MAC Championship at Kent State. Events will get underway at 4 p.m. with field events, while running events will kick off at 4:30 with the 600m before concluding around 8 p.m. with 4x400 relays. The meet will take place at OSU's French Field House.
While most of the team will stay in Ohio, a select group of men's runners will split off to compete at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame. This marks the second time the 'Hawks have traveled to South Bend this year having also attended the Fighting Irish's Meyo Invitational earlier in the month. Track events Saturday at UND are slated for an 11 a.m. start.
Full schedules for both meets are found above.
